Rumbin for Relay June 6, 2009

Trinity United Methodist Church had the 2nd Annual Rumblin For Relay Motorcycle Ride June 6, 2009. 43 bikes rode 120 miles.

The Henry Co Policemen Motorcyclist headed the group crossing the county line at Paris Landing Bridge.

We took Hwy 79E to Dover, turning left onto Bumpus Mills Rd, left on Hwy 164 to the Linton Rec Area for a rest stop. Continue on Hwy 164 to Hwy 68, turning left onto Golden Pold Rd and following the Trace, by Piney CampGround Rd, back to Hwy 79W, returning the Church in Paris. We had a cookout and door Prizes.

Natchez Trace State Park May 30,2009

Located in Western Tennessee, is Natchez Trace State Park. WE were riding with Troy and Jan.

We had a great day. We left Paris on Hwy 77, to Huntingdon we hit Hwy 70, turning on Hwy 104, Hold on, this is a great road, lots of turns and curves, into Lexington. Stop and see Beach Lake, a nice area. We took Hwy 412 to I-40 to Jackson for supper. Back home on Hwy45 to 79.

Hope for Honduras May 30, 2009

Maplewood Baptist Church hosted a Fun Ride to help raise Money for a Mission Trip to Honduras. Over 30 motorcyclist joined the 70 mile ride aounrd Henry County on May 30, 2009. Roads travels were Hwy 2198 by-pass, to 69A S turn @ Had-A-Call store thru Elkhorn, to Hwy 79E, turn left on 140 to 69N, back on 140 to 54E, returning to Hwy 218. We had a great day.

Nathan Bedford State Park May 16, 2009

A beautiful ride from Paris to Camden, by detour thru Big Sandy. WE took Hwy 69S, turn right at Big Sandy and turn left on Cooper Springs Road, (a much better ride than 69 into Camden) and then on Flatwoods Road into Camden, turning left on the square, ride until you reach the Park and be sure to go to the top of Pilot's Nob. The overlook is great!

Below is a video taken May 31st, 2009, when we took friends there on a Sunday afternoon. We drove down to Eva Beach in the Park.

Shawnee Hills Scenic Byway April 24, 2009

We started our Day Trip crossing the river from Paducah, KY to Brookport, IL. We try to avoid the interstate so we crossed on Hwy 45. This was a steel bridge, where you could look down and see thru to the water. We didn't much like the ride over it...needless to say on the return route, we took interstate.ILLINOIS state line at Brookport.

We took HWY 146 up the river, stopping at Elizabethtown. The historial boarding house, known as The Rose Hotel, open in 1812 overlooked the river. The picture above is outside the doors with the Wing by the river.

Our favorite stop of the day was the area, Cave-in-Rock State Park, located on the HWY 1 on the Ohio River. A 160-ft cave in a limestone bluff, looks like a den to priates and bandits in days gone by. There is a ferry that crosses the river which gives a nice view of the park. The wind was strong on our visit, and the river was rough, we passed.

The Cave was the setting for a movie with Jimmy Stewart once.

Take Hwy 1 North, turn on Karbers Ridge Road and travel the hillsides to the Garden of the Gods.

Here you will see oddly shaped sandstone formations-rounded, grooved, and streaked orange. Looks like toys for a giant.

Some are named, the Table Rock, Devil's Smokestack, Anvil Rock and

the Camel and the Mushroom Rock.

Enjoy the area and do some climbing on the rocks......act like a kid!!!

Mule Day Columbia, TN April 4, 2009

The TNgoldwings gather at the Burger King in Paris, TN to RIDE to Columbia, TN for the annual Mule Day event. Pictured above: Joel, Phil, Kenny, Larry, Jan and Troy and of course Sheila is behind the camera.

Come on ya'll follow me, as we take Hwy 641S to Camden, Hwy 70E to Waverly, taking scenic Hwy 13, and stopping at the Log Cabin Resturant for a good breakfast, near I-40, and southward on Hwy 50 into Columblia. Great morning, arriving just in time for the parade.

Mule Day is an annual celebration of all things related to mules and is held in Columbia, Tennessee, the "Mule Capital" of the world, it begun in 1840. Some quarter of million people were there.

Leaving town on Hwy 412 was a slow process, the traiffic was really really slow, but when we cut lose, we hit Hwy 48 for some curves and turns.

We stopped for a late afternoon lunch or early supper at the Fish Camp Resturant, Centerville, TN on Hwy 48.

Cherohala Skyway March 23, 2009

Connecting Western North Carolina to Eastern Tennessee is the Cherohala Skyway.

From Tellico Plains, TN Hwy 165 - NC Hwy 143 to Robbinsville is the Skyway. The road took over 30 years to build at a cost of over $100 million dollars. It is a 40 mile, two-lane blacktop road that passes crystal-clear rivers, climbs breathtaking scenic overlooks or over 5300 ft.

The overlooks is worth the stop and take photographs to enjoy the site later. Take your time and enjoy the views. It will take about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to cross the skyway.

We did a loop around, at Robbinsville, we took Hwy 129 South to Topon, Hwy 74 to Murphy, Hwy 64 into Cleveland.
